One of the awesome things about what we teach is that we teach people how to survive and protect themselves, and that doesn’t take a vacation during a pandemic. So, how do we overcome this current life circumstance and persevere?
This leads into the concept of “do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.” What are the roadblocks you have in front of you, and how can you adapt to that in order to achieve great outcomes.
For those who doesn’t know John Wooden, he may be one of the greatest coaches, if not the greatest coach to ever live. He led UCLA College back basketball through an 88-game winning streak, ten National Champions, and four undefeated seasons. And that’s just incredible, a really unique achievement.
One of the most fascinating things about his coaching style is that he wasn’t focused on getting his players to that destination. He was focused on the journey and his team learning the fundamentals of doing things the right way.
In martial arts, similar mentality can be applied to learning new techniques when you are at a disadvantage or training with an opponent that is slightly faster or stronger. There are ways to work on your skills and prepare your mindset so that in those circumstances you can achieve the most desirable outcome.
